We have several offices in Central and Southern England and have ambitious plans to expand our business. To support the organisation’s growth, we have created a new opportunity for a Private Client Tax Portfolio Manager to join our growing Winchester Tax team. This is a full-time permanent position that will be based in our Winchester office. The role will also offer hybrid (three days in the office and up to two days working at home) and flexible working options (flexing your hours on different days to suit your lifestyle).
The Role
Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Proactively manage a large and diverse portfolio of tax clients with minimal supervision, and support Partners with compliance work and ad hoc tax advisory work as required, ensuring compliance with Revenue and in-house deadlines. 
  • Build long lasting client relationships. Develop and apply your technical and commercial knowledge to provide expert advice. 
  • Ensure assignments are completed to a high standard, on time and within budgets.
  • Work in accordance with defined systems and procedures as well as challenging the status quo where there may be a more efficient or better way of doing things. Recommend systems and implement process improvements.
  • Liaise and negotiate with HMRC on behalf of clients. Respond to HMRC enquiries.
  • Responsible for billing own portfolio and managing own WIP.
  • Review prepared tax returns.
  • Participate in business development and marketing activities including networking in the business. community to develop own external profile and the Shaw Gibbs brand.
  • Contribute to winning new work by proactively managing existing clients and networking.
  • Lead potential new clients’ meetings bringing them on board.
  • Input into service and product pricing, including assisting with new client quotes.
  • Liaise and collaborate with the compliance team and other departments on client matters, identifying cross-selling opportunities.
  • Promote the interests of the firm to clients, prospective clients and other third parties.
  • Maintain up to date and relevant technical knowledge of the industry and national economic issues.

About You
We would like to hear from you if you have a minimum of 4-5 years UK practice tax experience, from either a medium sized or mid-tier firm. You will also have the following:
  • Ideally ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified
  • Significant experience within a private client tax team is required 
  • Previous experience with agricultural and rural businesses would be preferred but is not essential.
  • A Self-starter with a with a high level of resilience and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Organised and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong aptitude for IT - able to pick up new technology quickly
  • Can do attitude, positive and commercial approach
  • Confident, tactful and discreet manner
  • Strong team spirit but also effective working independently
